Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, grounded in Polyvagal Theory. It uses specially filtered music to gently stimulate the vagus nerve and support regulation of the nervous system.

The SSP helps clients shift out of persistent states of stress or shutdown, allowing the body to access safety, connection, and engagement.SSP is delivered in a trauma-informed and individualized way. Sessions are carefully titrated to meet each person’s capacity, with therapist support before, during, and after listening. It can help reduce anxiety, emotional reactivity, and sensory sensitivities while improving focus, sleep, and social connection.

The SSP may be integrated into counselling for those working through trauma, anxiety, or eating and feeding challenges, or for children, youth and adults with neurodivergent profiles who experience sensory or emotional regulation difficulties.

To learn more about the SSP and how it can support your nervous system, please book a discovery call with one our SSP certified providers.
