Marketa Nykl M. Ed, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Simon Fraser University. I have over 12 years of experience working with youth, adults and families in a variety of therapeutic settings. I am also a parent of three children, which I believe has made me a much more humble, compassionate and empathetic human being.

I sincerely believe that the quality of our lives is largely determined by the quality of our relationships — to ourselves, our bodies,  to others, to nature, and to the world around us. We need to belong and to be safely connected to others in order to thrive. My goal as your counsellor is to support  you on your journey:

  • To become more aware of your internal experience

  • To understand your emotional responses  and  how to regulate them within yourself and in relationships

  • To identify and effectively express your emotional needs with others

  • To genuinely accept yourself and your body so you can take care of yourself with deep self knowledge and self compassion

  • To form and cultivate nurturing relationships from a place of authenticity and belonging

I fundamentally believe that life does not have to hurt so much. I am dedicated to helping you feel better. Therapy can help you heal and transform old emotional wounds and learn new tools to help increase your capacity to cope, engage in relationships and to experience compassion, joy, openness, and novelty.  It is possible to overcome emotional pain, and go from surviving to thriving.

"Emotional pain is not something that should be hidden away and never spoken about. There is truth in your pain, there is growth in your pain, but only if it's first brought into light."
